Is MeetStrangers free?
Yes. Random video chat, text chat, interest matching and the language filter are all completely free and need no account.
Is this a good Omegle alternative?
Omegle shut down in November 2023. MeetStrangers keeps what people loved about it (one click to meet a random stranger) and adds interest matching, a language filter, a blur-first safety mode, emoji reactions and faster peer-to-peer video.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no sign-up, login, email or phone number. You only need to confirm that you are 18 or older and accept the rules.
Are my video chats recorded?
No. Video and audio travel directly between you and your chat partner over an encrypted WebRTC connection. We do not record or store calls or messages.
How does interest matching work?
Type a few interests like “music”, “gaming” or “english”. We look for someone online with at least one shared interest and show you what you have in common. If nobody matches within a few seconds, you are connected to a random stranger instead.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. It works in mobile Safari and Chrome on iPhone and Android with no app download. You can also add it to your home screen to use it like an app.
What happens if someone breaks the rules?
Press Report. You are instantly moved to a new stranger and the report is logged. Users who get reported repeatedly are automatically banned.
Why can’t I see the other person?
Check that your browser has camera permission and that no other app is using the camera. On some strict networks peer-to-peer video can be blocked; skipping to a new stranger usually fixes it.
